Abstract: In the 15th Five-Year Plan period, a dual carbon control system, primarily focused on intensity control and complemented by total volume control, will be fully implemented. Therefore, it is crucial to explore effective carbon governance mechanisms propelled by intelligent manufacturing, particularly from a catering perspective, to facilitate the transition of manufacturing towards green, low-carbon practices, and to foster high-quality sustainable economic development.

This study empirically investigates the effects of intelligent manufacturing catering on corporate dual carbon control using A-share listed firms from 2010 to 2023. The findings indicate that intelligent manufacturing catering results in a rise in enterprises' carbon emission intensity but a decrease in total carbon emissions. Mechanism analysis reveals that intelligent manufacturing catering addresses the escalating carbon emission intensity via the innovation crowding-out effect and diminishes total carbon emissions through the scale reduction effect. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that in enterprises with high financing constraints, heavy pollution industries, and significant competitive pressure, the impact of intelligent manufacturing on dual carbon control is more pronounced.

This study proposes the following policy implications. First, in response to the "pseudo-green" phenomenon in carbon governance of intelligent manufacturing catering, the dual carbon control policy should be optimized, and the implementation of the dual carbon control policy based on intensity should be promoted. Second, substantive innovation should be supported through special funds for green intelligent manufacturing to curb the crowding-out of innovation resources by strategic catering. Third, the regulatory system should be improved by increasing financial support, tightening credit review, strengthening environmental information disclosure, and promoting technology sharing across the industrial chain, thereby reducing firms' room for strategic manipulation.

This study provides three key contributions. First, it constructs an analytical framework for intelligent manufacturing and the dual carbon control, revealing the asymmetric effects of such catering on firms' carbon emission intensity and total emissions. Second, it clarifies the pathways through which strategic catering in intelligent manufacturing affects the dual carbon control, identifying two mechanisms: innovation crowding-out that increases carbon emission intensity and scale contraction that reduces total carbon emissions. Third, it examines the heterogeneous effects of strategic catering in intelligent manufacturing on dual carbon control under financing constraints, industry attributes, and market environment.

These findings suggest that policies should move beyond expanding basic access and place greater emphasis on deepening women's actual use of digital financial services. Digital financial inclusion should also be linked with support for women's self-employment, micro-entrepreneurship, and family care arrangements, so that financial service convenience can be more effectively translated into women's income growth and a narrower gender income gap.
